Designo Glass Veranda, Essex Care Home

Dr M had recently bought a Care Home which required a full refurbishment. When he contacted us he was nearing completion but wanted an outside space where residents could sit on bright sunny days yet be shielded from the sun and rain showers. Having limited budget due to the extensive refurbishment program already undertaken, we suggested the Designo Glass Veranda as an ideal solution for this project.

The structure was to butt against a wall on one side and therefore needed to be sealed against water ingress at both the rear and side. To ensure a permanent seal, we used lead flashing. The wall plate was fixed at circa 3200mm so that the roof cleared the tall windows yet still allowed for an overflow to exit onto the roof. The front frame height was set at 2200mm giving a roof pitch of 18.5 degrees. A blue tint to the glass was chosen to help give some relief from bright sun and also to give a pleasant ambiance on cloudy days. Work was completed in budget and on time.
